Teeth Whitening: Charcoal

Activated charcoal is one thing our medicine cabinet is never without. It has so many uses, including teeth whitening, face masks, and when taken internally, it helps with stomach bugs and food poisoning. One time when my family was on vacation  we got a horrible stomach bug while visiting with family. Thankfully my Mom remembered the activated charcoal we packed! Those who were just getting nauseous took one capsule and felt better within a short time and were able to avoid the “stomach” part of the bug . All of us who were already very sick and couldn’t keep anything down  wished we had remembered the activated charcoal sooner. Now everybody who was on that vacation has a bottle of activated charcoal in their home. If you do use it internally, just remember to drink lots of water after taking it (which you should already be doing if you have the flu) because it can be dehydrating due to its absorbent properties.

Now, back to the tooth whitener. I don’t think  there is a better tooth whitener out there. Each time I use it my teeth are noticeably whiter, and feel very clean. Yes, it looks frightening while it’s on, but it works! Besides, you can always scare a family member with it…

DIY Tooth Whitener

1 capsule activated charcoal

a toothbrush

Open the capsule and dump the contents into as small dish. Dampen your toothbrush and dip it into the charcoal and gently brush all your teeth with it. Leave it on for 5 minutes. Lightly brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste. It will stain clothes, so maybe wear a black shirt while doing this. Also, if your sink/counter top is made out of something porous, then it could stain it.
